Hello, my name is Steven Scheffe. I am an IT manager here at Commerce Bank. I have been at Commerce for nine years.
I did not expect to have a tech career, so the stars kind of aligned, and Commerce found me and I found Commerce at a time when I wasn't looking for a software development job at a
bank. And it didn't take long to realize how much IT and tech can be found in a bank and in the financial industry. So I think the biggest surprise has been the way I have felt culture, and the influence on building a good, healthy culture from the top all the way down.
I think one of the great things about IT at Commerce is that in a lot of bigger companies, a lot of typical software shops, you can get siloed into a particular area, whether it's a particular piece of technology or a particular programming language, whatever it might be. But at Commerce, we in IT get to wear many hats.
Commerce is such a great place to work, not only in IT, but across the board. From a relationship standpoint, I'd say if relationships and feeling valued for your work are key indicators of what you're looking for in a position or in a company, then Commerce should be right there at the top of your list.
