Brandon Steenson

Hi, I'm Brandon Steenson, Associate General Counsel.

Culture and community involvement have always important factors for me when considering where I work. I became aware of Commerce's reputation in the community soon after moving to Kansas City in 2005 and started here in 2018.

I love the variety of work that comes across my desk. Commerce attorneys pride themselves on being generalists that are ready to tackle any subject matter. Every day is a new adventure for me, even when those adventures are difficult!

I love solving difficult problems. My favorite days are when we've found a solution to a seemingly intractable problem and I get to tell an internal client "Yes" when they were maybe expecting a "No".

The most pleasant surprise working here has been the culture! When I look back at my interviews and early days with Commerce, I can see with hindsight how much the culture weaves throughout every interpersonal interaction. Before I worked for Commerce, I said that culture was an important factor in my long-term contentment with a job, but I had no idea how important it really was.

I joined Commerce mid-career, so in many ways, I was fairly far along in that journey. With that said, I've grown so much during my time at Commerce. The company has invested in me, whether through culture training or leadership development. It's helped me to become confident in myself and my skillset.
