Hi, I am Garrett Pouncil. I am a talent development program manager, and I've worked at Commerce since 2019, although I did work at Commerce for two years while I was in college!
In the companies that I've worked for, I've wanted to make sure they align closely with what I not only want to do in my career, but the impact that they're having in my communities. And I feel like Commerce does a really great job of supporting the communities that they are a part of and really making sure that they're not just a business there, but they're also truly connecting with those communities.
Our inclusion efforts have been a big surprise for me because I didn't know that we had that much of a focus on inclusion, but I've really been able to see how we are not only talking about it, but living it out and truly integrating it into our culture as an organization. This is huge for me because I am a part of a few of those different typically marginalized communities, and I feel like Commerce really wants me as an individual to succeed and feel like I have a place here and feel like I belong.
If someone were considering a job at Commerce, I would say that they should definitely take a look at who we are, what we're about, the impact that we have in the communities that we serve, and ensure that they're ready to be a part of that. We want to make sure that they're ready to come on board and go with us as we continue to grow.
I've identified things about myself that looking back in my career, if I had learned it a little bit sooner, I could have made some changes. I could have worked to grow in some areas, but Commerce has allowed me to identify some of those opportunity areas and make some strides in growing and improving, and I look forward to continuing to do that in the future while growing in my career here.
